The Engineering Department at CERN is seeking an experienced International Welding Engineer (IWE) to join the Forming & Welding Section (MME-FW) within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Group (MME). The selected candidate will provide advanced technical expertise in welding and non-destructive testing (NDT) in support of complex interventions scheduled in the underground areas of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its associated experiments.
These activities will take place during the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), expected to begin at the end of 2026 and continue until 2029. This position is part of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and Experiments Upgrade, a major program aimed at significantly increasing the collider's performance.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Mechanical or Materials Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
