MAX IV is looking for a person to assist the vacuum team in the preparation and execution of planned installation activities of accelerators and beamlines. The installations are planned to be done during Summer Shutdown – which is a period of time when the accelerators are stopped and there is time for maintenance and installation of new equipment.
As a summer worker, you will work together with the vacuum team and your tasks will be to provide hands-on (practical) support during installation, testing, and conditioning of vacuum systems inside the accelerator tunnels and/or beamlines.
The work requires focus, patience, attention to details and may involve work in tight spaces. Furthermore, you should be able to work with mechanical (tools, supports) and electronic (controllers) hardware.
The person will gain basic knowledge of MAX IV accelerator complex and beamlines. Furthermore, experience in vacuum technology, for example: operation of vacuum pumping systems (example: turbomolecular and ion pumps) vacuum measurement basics.
Full time: 100% starting from 15th June and ends 7th August 2026 (both days included).
Your team
The vacuum team is responsible for providing support in vacuum technology to MAX IV accelerators and beamlines. The duties of the vacuum team include: design, simulations, procurement, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting and follow up of ultra-high vacuum systems of the accelerators and beamlines. The team consists of engineers and technicians with experience in vacuum technology.
Your main work tasks will be
- Hands-on support (together with vacuum team members) to install, pump down, test and condition new vacuum hardware in accelerators and beamlines.
- The work will be in different locations across MAX IV and requires work in a team.
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- The applicant must have studied at least two years in an engineering degree.
- Good command in English.
- Good communications skills.

- Basics knowledge of particle accelerators or synchrotron light source facilities.
