Today we operate a heterogeneous disk and tape storage system, with several large EOS disk farms, the CERN Tape Archive (CTA) system and other storage solutions.
As a Storage Technical Engineer, you will join the service deployment and operation activities of the IT-SD group and you will:
- Participate in the installation, configuration, operation, monitoring, and deployment of the large-scale, geographically distributed disk and tape storage systems.
- Contribute to documentation, development, optimization and further automation of storage services.
- Contribute to the evolution of architecture and design of disk and tape storage services.
- Perform service interventions, interacting with external service suppliers and support companies as necessary.
- Respond to user tickets (user support), resolve service unavailability incidents, escalating issues to developers or vendors as appropriate.
The candidate should have demonstrated practical experience in most of the following areas:
- Operation of large-scale production deployments and understanding and tuning distributed storage systems based on complex logging data.
- Design and architecture of large-scale distributed storage services.
- Storage hardware environments and communication protocols (such as SAS/SATA disk arrays, RAID setups, Fibre-Channel SAN switch operation and cabling, SNMP traps, SMART metrics, Linux storage device drivers).
- Linux environment, in particular the I/O and networking subsystems; and Linux system installation, administration, monitoring and debugging.
- Programming tasks in Python, Bash, Shell.
- Automation software (e.g. Puppet, Foreman) and monitoring tools (e.g. Grafana).
- Physical, virtual and container-based infrastructure management.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of information technologies or a related field.
