Mer information

DESY operates the world's brightest storage-ring-based hard X-ray radiation source PETRA Ill which offers scientists outstanding opportunities for experiments with X-rays of exceptionally high brilliance since 2009. In order to keep up with increasing demand for high brightness, DESY is currently undertaking to develop a diffraction-limited light source PETRA IV. The appropriate preparatory work has to be done over the next few years which will include a very challenging design of beam diagnostics and instrumentation. The MDI (Machine, Diagnostics and Instrumentation) group is responsible for development and conception of electronical, mechanical, and (electro-) optical monitors which are used for the observation of particle beams with differing characteristics at the DESY accelerator facilities. About your role:

  • Conceptual design of transverse beam profile monitors which allow to resolve beam profiles in the order of a few micrometers
  • Design of diagnostic beamlines for synchrotron radiation in the visible and X-ray spectral region
  • Development of modern beam diagnostic instrumentation for the DESY accelerators
  • Planning and running of experiments for longitudinal and transverse beam diagnostics
  • Leading of a development team
