Mer information

The Center for Free Electron Science (CFEL) is designed to significantly advance science with next generation light sources. The CFEL Advanced Multilayer X-ray Optics group is developing novel X-ray optics and imaging modalities for experiments with intense, coherent X-ray sources such as synchrotrons and X-ray free electron lasers. These sources have opened up new opportunities for breaking barriers in focusing, dispersing, and otherwise controlling X-ray pulses in space and time. Our multilayer-based optics are prepared with custom magnetron sputtering systems, which require sophisticated software control. A research software engineer would develop and maintain software that is used for controlling these systems as well as be involved in developing software that is used by researchers during experiments or for subsequent data analysis.

About your role:

  • Develop software to control various hardware components (motors, DAQ, PLC)
  • Maintain and extend the existing software of advanced sputtering machines and X-ray microscopes
  • Collaborate with experts in diverse fields such as X-ray imaging, instrumentation and controls to identify the software requirements and challenges
  • Contribute occasionally to the other projects of the collaborating division (e.g. software for real-time image processing)
  • Participate in experiments at synchrotrons and XFELs
