About the role:

ESS is at an exciting turning point. It is in transition from being a construction site, to being an operating facility. To help us realise our goal of being the most powerful neutron source in the world, we are now looking to add a Detector Scientist for neutron detectors and detector system integration to our Detector Group.

As a Detector Scientist, you’ll be part of ESS's largest and most critical projects where you'll play a pivotal role in verification and validation activities of neutron detectors which are at different stages of being integrated into detector systems across the ESS beamlines. You'll have the opportunity to participate in experimental campaigns to evaluate the performance of our neutron detectors, perform data processing and analysis, as well as support the integration, commissioning and operational readiness of detector systems.

What you will do:

  • Perform and report verification and validation activities (e.g. FAT, SAT, integration tests, commissioning tests) to ensure delivered detectors and peripheral systems, primarily in the Helium-3 work unit instruments, meet required specifications.
  • Coordinate on-site testing, installation, and commissioning activities, primarily for Helium-3 work unit instruments.
  • Support integration of detectors to subsystems (e.g. firmware and software) and utilities, primarily in Helium-3 work unit instruments.

The is a full-time. fixed-term position for a period of 3 years and is based at the ESS Campus in Lund, Sweden.
