We are seeking a mechanical technician to machine small parts and build custom equipment and components for research applications within the Sample Environment group, supporting the ESS scientific program.

In the Sample Environment group, engineers and technicians specialize in the development and maintenance of equipment for the scientific samples studied at ESS.

In this role, you don’t need to be a scientist. What we are really looking for are your specialised, hands-on skills in manual machining of custom parts and components.

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on toolmaker or mechanical technician. Your role will be to support our researchers and engineers with designing and prototyping various holders and small equipment for scientific experiments. A key part of your role will involve turning concepts and ideas into practical, tangible objects. Furthermore, you will help maintain the workshop and collaborate with engineers on equipment development, testing, installation, maintenance, and repair.

You will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at international science facilities comparable to ESS, which may involve some travel outside Sweden during your initial two years.

The position may include occasional on-call duties during ESS operational periods, which are expected to begin within the next two years.
