What you'll do

Within the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider project, and long shutdown activities, you will join the Cryogenic Group as a full member of the team, working in a multidisciplinary environment focused on cryogenic instrumentation, control systems, and electrical engineering. You will contribute to R&D activities, as well as to the design, reception, and maintenance of tooling and test benches used for validation and commissioning operations.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new cryogenic instrumentation like pressure, level, temperature or heater, ensuring their design, qualification, and adaptation to the complex and challenging operating conditions of CERN accelerators, including cryogenic environments, high magnetic fields, and other harsh constraints inherent to accelerator operation.
  • Ensure the maintenance of existing test benches based on LabVIEW, including legacy systems, while also developing new test facilities for the qualification of series of radiation-tolerant electronic cards, the calibration of absolute and differential pressure sensors, and associated data analysis.
  • Provide field support for cryogenic instrumentation deployed across CERN accelerators, cryogenic plants, and test facilities, including diagnostics, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure reliable and continuous operation of the equipment.

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
  • By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation. You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.
