Join us in the DESY Experiment Control Group (FS-EC), a team of technicians, engineers and scientists that develops and operates IT infrastructure for scientific large-scale facilities, particularly photon science beamlines. Our mission is to ensure the sustainable operation of Linux-based scientific support infrastructure, delivering high-quality control system solutions for high-speed data acquisition and experiment orchestration at world-class photon sources such as PETRA III, FLASH and the upcoming PETRA IV facility.

About your role:

• Development and maintenance of CI/CD-based build and distribution systems for scientific software such as Debian, Conda, Pip, or Docker packages
• Support the provisioning of Enterprise Linux solutions for scientific applications, ensuring reliable operation across DESY’s research infrastructure
• Develop deployment concepts and ensure the sustainable operation of distributed services (microservices, databases, scientific control system infrastructure)
• Provide long-term support for established build chains, distribution systems (e.g., Puppet, Ansible) and distributed infrastructure
• Guide and onboard collaboration partners to follow best practices in DevOps and software engineering
• Apply modern software engineering practices, including code reviews, Git workflows and testing
• Contribute to open-source and community-driven projects, fostering innovation in scientific IT
• Collaborate with national and international research institutions on control systems and IT infrastructure
